Goodbye Depression: Take Control of Your Life and Get Rid of Depression a Practical Guide Based on Personal Experience $5.08 Unable to live with depression? Medical treatment brings no solution? Self-help books written by doctors do not help? That is precisely where the author stood after years of trying to get rid of depression in the usual ways. So she took matters into her own hands, fought for her life and won it back. This is how she did it and how you can do it too. The first of "Goodbye Depression’s" two parts is an intimate account of the author’s war with depression. With dry humor to offset the pain, it tells how her full and happy life collapsed into a deep depression. Then it tells how she fought her way back to a life as good as it had been before. The winning strategy, presented in the second part, is based on the premise that there are no miracle solutions and nobody is going to solve depression for you, so you must take control and do it yourself. Goodbye Depression is based on experience and common sense, not on theories. It tells you in a direct and practical manner what to do and how to do it, speaking at eye level, from one victim of depression to another, not from the height of a professional pedestal. This is a book written by a woman who has been there, has done it and has won, for people who want to win and are going to win. Dalia Eliav is a mathematician and a teacher, a former competition swimmer and tennis champion and still a very active athlete. Her motivation for writing the book is the firm belief that what she has learned can surely help other people who suffer from depression and the desire to share it with them. |

Help $13.29 In a book the San Francisco Chronicle called "unclassifiably wise" and a "masterpiece," noted Harper’s essayist Garret Keizer explores the paradox that we are human only by helping others- and all too human when we try to help. It is the primal cry, the first word in a want ad, the last word on the tool bar of a computer screen. A song by the Beatles, a prayer to the gods, the reason Uncle Sam is pointing at you. What we get by with a little of, what we could use a bit more of, what we were only trying to do when we were so grievously misunderstood. What we’ll be perfectly fine without, thank you very much. It makes us human. It can make us suffer. It can make us insufferable. It can make all the difference in the world. It can fall short. "Help is like the swinging door of human experience: ‘I can help!’ we exclaim and go toddling into the sunshine; ‘I was no help at all,’ we mutter and go shuffling to our graves. I’m betting that the story can be happier than that . . . but I have a clearer idea now than I once did of what I’m betting against." In his new book, Help, Garret Keizer raises the questions we ask everyday and in every relationship that matters to us. What does it mean to help? When does our help amount to hindrance? When are we getting less help-or more-than we actually want? When are we kidding ourselves in the name of helping (or of refusing to "enable") someone else? Drawing from history, literature, firsthand interviews, and personal anecdotes, Help invites us to ponder what is at stake whenever one human being tries to assist another. From the biblical Good Samaritan to present day humanitarians, from heroic sacrifices in times of political oppression to nagging dilemmas in times of ordinary stress, Garret Keizer takes us on a journey that is at once far-ranging and never far from where we live. He reminds us that in our perpetual need for help, and in our frequent perplexities over how and when to give it, we are not alone. |

Crisis Economics: A Crash Course in the Future of Finance $27.95 This myth shattering book reveals the methods Nouriel Roubini used to foretell the current crisis before other economists saw it coming and shows how those methods can help us make sense of the present and prepare for the future. Renowned economist Nouriel Roubini electrified his profession and the larger financial community by predicting the current crisis well in advance of anyone else. Unlike most in his profession who treat economic disasters as freakish once-in a-lifetime events without clear cause, Roubini, after decades of careful research around the world, realized that they were both probable and predictable. Armed with an unconventional blend of historical analysis and global economics, Roubini has forced politicians, policy makers, investors, and market watchers to face a long-neglected truth: financial systems are inherently fragile and prone to collapse. Drawing on the parallels from many countries and centuries, Nouriel Roubini and Stephen Mihm, a professor of economic history and a New York Times Magazine writer, show that financial cataclysms are as old and as ubiquitous as capitalism itself. The last two decades alone have witnessed comparable crises in countries as diverse as Mexico, Thailand, Brazil, Pakistan, and Argentina. All of these crises-not to mention the more sweeping cataclysms such as the Great Depression-have much in common with the current downturn. Bringing lessons of earlier episodes to bear on our present predicament, Roubini and Mihm show how we can recognize and grapple with the inherent instability of the global financial system, understand its pressure points, learn from previous episodes of irrational exuberance, pinpoint the course of global contagion, and plan for our immediate future. Perhaps most important, the authors-considering theories, statistics, and mathematical models with the skepticism that recent history warrants- explain how the world’s economy can get out of the mess we’re in, and stay out. |

Deal Breakers: When to Work On a Relationship and When to Walk Away By Bethany Marshall $14.95 This is a book about men. Not all men, just emotionally unhealthy men. The ones who make you question, “Is it him or is it me? Am I making too big a deal out of this? I try to tell him how I feel, but he says I’m overreacting or needy or it’s all my fault.”
Relationships are hard work, but how hard should they be? When do you know you are struggling too hard to make a relationship succeed?
Deal Breakers is about getting out of this “relationship purgatory” — where the present is unfulfilling and the future is the only thing you can hope for. But there is no magic future. If he won’t work on problems today, it’s unlikely they’ll ever be resolved. And passively hoping for change will only cost you years of depression or expensive therapy.
Dr. Bethany Marshall is here to remind women that relationships — like business relationships — are deals. In the business world, a deal breaker is the one nonnegotiable term that, if not agreed to, means the deal is off. But in the world of relationships, identifying your deal breaker can be much more promising, as it holds out the possibility of helping you to understand where the relationship has gone wrong, what needs to be done in order to make it better, and when to walk away because you’re doing more work than him to fix it.
A deal breaker is a boundary that smart people set for themselves because they know that falling in love can make them do stupid things. Through case studies, deal breaker scenarios, and suggested courses of action, Deal Breakers expertly guides frustrated women. By defining your deal breaker, you hold all the power to create the happiness you deserve. |

Since 1930, Fisher-Price has been in business to create toys that fascinate and stimulate a child’s imagination. Fisher-Price was founded in 1930, hardly the best time to launch a new business as the shadows of the Depression still loomed over American business. Still, Herman Fisher, Irving Price and Helen Schelle combined their diverse manufacturing and retailing experience to create a toy company and confidently brought 16 wooden toys to the International Toy Fair in New York City. The whimsical nature and magical surprises of those first Fisher-Price toys quickly caught on and became the hallmarks of Fisher-Price ever since. Fisher-Price believes in the potential of children and in the importance of a supportive environment in which they can grow, learn, and get the best possible start in life.
